Promising Scientist Award of CMOA
(Prix
d'Incitation Scientifique du CMOA)
The sixth European workshop "Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics"
(QSCP-VI),
held at Sofia, Bulgaria, in April 2001, saw the award of the first "QSCP
Promising Scientist Prize of CMOA". Administered by the "Centre de Mécanique
Ondulatoire Appliquée", this prize will be awarded, in principle,
annually at QSCP workshops. The following workshops were held at Bratislava
(Slovakia) in September 2002 (QSCP-VII),
Spetses (Greece) in September 2003 (QSCP-VIII), Les Houches (France) in September 2004 (QSCP-IX), Carthage (Tunisia)
in September 2005 (QSCP-X),
St Petersburg (Russia) in August 2006 (QSCP-XI), Windsor (England) in September 2007 (QSCP-XII) .... After the Carthage and St-Petersburg meetings it was felt more
appropriate to rename the QSCP workshops as International.
A Promising Scientist Prize of CMOA may also be awarded
at other meetings involving applications of the quantum theory to physicochemical
systems. Accordingly, an award was given at the Fourth Congress of the
International Society for Theoretical Chemical Physics (ISTCP-IV),
held at Marly-le-Roi (France) in July 2002.
The nomination procedure for the Promising Scientist Award of CMOA
follows that established at the QSCP-VI workshop and modified at the
QSCP-XIII workshop. Nominations can be made by any established
scientist who has attended one or more QSCP or ICTCP meetings. Self
nominations may also be considered. Each nomination should include a CV, a
cover letter with a statement of main accomplishments, and two letters
of reference mailed of faxed to us at least six weeks before the
meeting. Applications will be considered jointly by the International
Scientific and Local Organizing Committees.
Whilst we believe that older participants still have considerable
promise, we would expect candidates to be typically, but not
necessarily, under thirty-five years of age. If the criteria of
"scientific and human endeavour and achievement" are not met by
candidates under that age then candidates under forty-five will also be
considered.. The proposed nominees must attend the meeting at the
expense of their own institution (reduced fees are available for junior
scientists).
The selected nominees will be announced by a distinguished member of
the Scientific Committee and the Prize will be awarded by Dr Jean
Maruani, President of CMOA, to the first of the selected nominees
present at the meeting during a banquet ceremony. THERE WILL BE NO
AWARD IN ABSTENTIA. Other selected nominees will receive a diploma in
recognition of their nomination together with a gift from CMOA.
